Introduction
In the last
three months, Tamil Nadu, a state in India, facing big time in protesting for
their rights. All started with the Jallikattu issue, a mega protest happened in
Marina Beach at the capital city, Chennai. More than 1.5 million protestors
participated and ended up in success. Today they are protesting for a big issue
called Hydro carbon extraction project.
Prior to
Hydro carbon
A year back,
the state farmers protested for the Methane project since the Central
government give the permission to occupy the lands of farmer which is actually
a good farming land. Farming is the back bone of Indian economy and the same
for Tamil Nadu. More than 60% of the people in Tamil Nadu is directly and
indirectly depends on the farming as the primary occupation.
All the
protest and awareness stopped the Methane project in the budding stage. Very
recently, central government gave directions to start new project called Hydro
carbon extraction in Neduvasal, Puthukkotai district. Farmers started their
initial stage of protest and with the help of social media, news spread like
fire then joined by youths of Tamil Nadu.
Central
Government’s stand
Government
was very clear in their stand that the extraction of hydro carbon is must and
which leads to good business in the form of fossil fuel. They circulated
articles stating it is not methane project and it will give jobs to 500 people.
The project valued at 6000 crore INR for the period of 30 years.
Is Hydro
Carbon project differs from Methane extraction project?
The answer
is no. Hydro carbon (CH) is the combination of hydrogen (H) and carbon (C). One
carbon and four hydrogen is Methane (CH4).

Premanand’s
view on this subject
He stated “Many
world countries including America, Germany, and Sweden extract Hydro Carbon
from Garbage. Sweden imports almost 10 tons of garbage for this extraction. US
uses an extraction process called 'Land Fill'.
1 ton
Garbage = 40 kg Methane = 2 LPG Cylinders.
Almost 4,500
tons of garbage is been accumulated in one day in Chennai alone. 200 Municipal
Corporations in India accumulates 1 lakh tons of Garbage in a day.
1 day = 1 Lakh ton Garbage = 40
lakh kg Methane = 2 lakh LPG Cylinders.
Also,
Central Government had planned to implement "Hydraulic Fracturing" in
44 places all around the country and it intends to produce 1 Billion Kg of
Methane. Instead, if it makes an effective system for this solid waste
management, it can easily produce 1.5 Billion Kg of Methane per Year. Also, we
can produce 90 Lakh Tonnes of organic manures from the remaining garbage, which
can be used to convert 45 lakh acres of wasteland into an agricultural field.”
Remedy to
this issue
Countries
like India (part of third world), should start focus on renewable energy and
stop depending on fossil fuels. India got more number of dump, sun light and
they don't need to depend on non-renewable energy source.
